Prevention First

Tomorrow I am taking the day off to travel to Austin to lobby for Planned Parenthood – I have a feeling this will be one of my most treasured experiences. The “Texas Prevention First Act” is currently before the Texas House of Representatives and we are going to help make sure it gets passed.

The topic of abortion is as divisive as they come, but one thing we can all agree on is that in an ideal world, there would be no abortion and every pregnancy would be a desired one. The reality though is that not everyone can afford birth control and emergency contraception and not every health care plan provides for them. In addition, Texas sexual education programs often neglect to educate the public on contraceptive options. This bill looks to rectify these issues.

Texas Prevention First Act: Relating to preventative health care services and educational programs to reduce unintended pregnancies, the need for abortion and infection rates of sexually-transmitted diseases.

Interested in helping? Read the bill (it is only a few pages long) then write your representatives by following this link and let them know what you think about Prevention First!
