The house as it stood on Saturday
morning.
Etoke places the last cross-beam on
the roof of the house. Etoke could drive a five inch nail into a
wooden beam with eight or nine strokes. Dave and I tried all
afternoon and each managed to get only one in straight - using about
fifty strokes!

Dave and Etoke pause for a picture.
Seeing as Dave and I couldn't drive
a five inch nail straight to save our lives, we relegated ourselves to
sawing. Sawing while balancing on a 2x4 is a lot harder than it
looks...

...but we both got the hang of it
soon enough! |
Here, the local children are trying
to teach Mike how to use his hands to make a hollow whistling sound -
they had lots of fun watching him try and he was a very good sport
about it.

Etoke uses a large pair of shears
to cut the currogated in to the proper length.
As
the weather turns sour, the roofing team struggles to get the house as
covered as possible!
Luke let the children listen to his
walkman - something the enjoyed a great deal!
After climbing rocks a few days
before, I figured the next logical step was a tree :-)

On
the way home, we stopped by the saturday market where clothes, food and
drinks are sold.
At
the market, this old man explained to me (through a translater) that
his house was 'trying to kill' him as it crumbled and asked me when
Habitat would come and fix his house.
